Description

This is a one day, designed for CTSO officer teams and advisers. This workshop covers those skills associated with conducting meeting including parliamentary procedure, agenda development and giving effective reports. Participating teams receive lunch and resource materials.

Please bring 4-7 officers or potential officers to the training! Teachers are to attend and fully engage with their teams for the whole day.

NOTE:  Both Beginning and Advanced Officer Training Courses are required for ADE certificate.

Objectives

·         Describe the importance of using parliamentary procedures in running a CTSO meeting

·         Demonstrate how to make a main motion, debate it and vote on it

·         Identify the seven subsidiary motions and the rules which govern them

·         Demonstrate the correct use of all seven subsidiary motions

·         Identify the incidental motions and the rules which govern them

·         Demonstrate the correct use of Point of Order, Division of the Assembly, and Parliamentary Inquiry

·         Identify the five Privileged Motions and the rules with govern them

·         Demonstrate the correct use of Adjourn and Question of Privilege

·         Identify the three Restorative/Unclassified Motions and the rules which govern them

·         Demonstrate the correct use of Take from the Table

·         Run a mock-meeting using parliamentary procedure incorporating Main, Subsidiary, Incidental, Privileged, and Restorative/Unclassified motions

Course Instructors


Curt Bertelsen is the Director of Professional Development for Pima JTED.  He received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from the University of Arizona.  He counts himself blessed to have been able to teach Agriculture at Flowing Wells High School for 23 years. He has been a part of an amazing team of professionals that has developed the Arizona CTE Curriculum Consortium and Premier Program Series, both have grown into statewide efforts. He loves working with new teachers and seeing them grow into amazing professional educators. He and his wife, Ann, are parents to three wonderful adult children and an awesome son-in-law. His dog, Daisy, likes to follow him around as he gardens. Contrary to nasty rumors, he actually eats his vegetables!  Is dark chocolate technically a vegetable??
